Gestational Diabetes

199161

Well, I’m gestational diabetic.  Not surprising.  But very disappointing.  It would be nice to have one thing in this pregnancy be easy.  But apparently God is saying, “Ha ha….joke’s on you.  You’re going to be extra thankful for this child.”  Let’s just hope this road doesn’t end in insulin and a 10 pound baby.  Pretty please, with Splenda on top?

WHOA!

27 Weeks

So, I’m 27 weeks today.  How can pregnancy go so slow and so fast at the same time?  91 days to go?  That’s crazy!!!!  Plus, that means that summer will be here shortly.  Yay!  Anyway, according to one of my books the baby is 15 inches long (almost as tall as I am-hahaha), and over 2 lbs now.  That is insane to think that I have a 2 pound human being living inside me.  Definitely weird, surreal and wonderful all at the same time.  Pregnancy is definitely a jumble of emotions, that is for sure.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

OB Triage

imagesSo here’s a picture of a lady being hooked up to what we call the tocodynamometer (toco for short).  that Piece of equipment measures contractions, how far apart they are, are they getting closer together.  That kid of stuff.  The monitor on the bottom is the External Fetal Monitor used to track the well being of the baby in relation to it’s contractions.  Most of the time all is well.  And we love that.  Well, what happened at work last week was that a girl (and I do mean girl) fell. So she came in the ER.  It is the policiy of our hospital to not have anything to do with anyone under 20 weeeks.  Cruel, I know, but necessary.  Well, this particular ER doc was adamant that she be monitored in our unit even though she was 14 weeks pregnant.  They had already confirmed doptones.  And that fancy machine is not sesitive enough to pick a 14 week gestatation.  But then he brought out the big guns, “Well, I guess I’d rather you tried, than refused”   Ass munch.  So I brought her back to land d where we we of course couldn’t hear heart tones except via doppler.  Luckily she was a calm person and it didn’t worry her that we couldn’t find heart tones.   So, back to ER she went, where he could have done a 10 minute ultrasound to rule out a bleed and be done with it ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH  I hate when ER triages everything Ob to the OB floor.  “I’m sorry, you have a broken toe nail?  You’ll have to wait in L and D.  Seriously people.

Sugar, Sugar

sugar

Well I had my glucose tolerance test today.  And I failed.  Miserably.  Which I figured I would.  But it still stinks.  My one possible saving grace is that I also have a bladder infection, which can raise blood sugar levels.  I guess we’ll see.  I do my 3 hour test next Wednesday.  Keep your fingers crossed that there is no gestational diabetes!

Snow Day

snowday

Well, I’m not a fan of these late winter snow storms.  Especially after such beautiful weather last week.  But on the plus side, I don’t have to try and trek to work tonite, so I can just snuggle under my down blanket, watch TV and snooze.  And that’s great.  To my sisters……I hope tomorrow brings a snow day for you!

No Water…

water_faucetSo Mike and I are bathing like Erin and Bill do today.  We have no water.  Frozen pipes!  Which is ridiculous considering I think it’s the warmest it’s been in a long time!
