I Just Realized

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:28 pm by mnrn

I just realized that I could have a baby 3 months from now!  I’ll be 37 weeks on May 26th.  Wow!  That’s a little bit frightening.

Head Scratcher

We had the weirdest thing at work yesterday.  We had a multip who was being induced because she was overdue.  Weirdest thing though.  Nobody could find her cervix.  She had a LEEP about 10 years ago, so the docs figure her cervix was just stubbornly scarred shut.  So she ended up with a c-section, essentially because nobody knew how dilated she was.  Crazy.

Pregnant Ladies….

Just so you know, if you are having contractions and your cervix doesn’t change, you are NOT IN LABOR!!  I did not “stop” your labor by giving you the medication that YOU REQUESTED.  That is all.

Nurses tend to be a superstitious bunch.  At least the ones that I’ve worked with.  And I am no exception.  We believe that the full moon brings craziness, even though studies have shown that it doesn’t (I don’t believe it).  L&D nurses know that a change in barometric pressure means more business.  We also believe that if you open the cabinet drawer that houses the prenatal records, you will get more business.  Which is why during busy times you will see nurses avoiding this cabinet like the plague.  And in slow times we are frantically digging through the drawer.  At my last job, there was a physician that I didn’t particularly like.  When she was on call, I stayed the heck away from the prenatal drawer.  Seemed to work most of the time ;) .  Anyway, today brings us Friday the 13th.  The mother load of all superstitious days.  Craziness will abound!  And I work the weekend.  This could get interesting.

Oh!  And Happy 100th Post to me!

For some reason, someone found my blog via the words “dairy queen”.  I don’t remember ever talking about Dairy Queen.  Did I?

No Hero

Just my opinion, but the Octuplets’ mom is no hero in my book.  In fact, she is quite foolish (as are her doctors).  Not only did she risk her own life, but she put every single one of those babies in danger.  It is pure luck that she was able to carry those babies to 30 weeks gestation.  And who knows what the future holds for these babies?  I don’t doubt how much she loves each and every one of her now 14 (!) children.  But she shouldn’t be praised.  But again……just my opinion.

All’s Well in Babytown

So, I had my ultrasound and consult with the perinatologist yesterday.  Everything is great!  I really didn’t expect there to be any hydrocephalus (the birth defect that I was born with), but I worried about other things.  But, the baby is fantastic.  And I fear that when he or she starts crawling, I may not get to sit down for the next 20 years!  The baby was moving all around and actually flipped when the dr. was looking at him/her.  As you can tell, we did not find out the gender of the baby.  We are choosing to be surprised.  It’s hard right now, because I feel wrong calling the baby “it”.  But that’s okay.

After we had our appt. I got together with my good friend (and former roommate) Jolene.  It’s always fun to catch up with her.  We also went to see our friend Heather, her husband Aaron and their new baby Elsa.  She is gorgeous!  Anyway, it’s a relief to know that the baby is healthy and hopefully I can try not to worry about anything else………at least for a little while!
